Abstract (EN)

Despite the long-standing, deep-rooted prejudice against the double bass as a solo instrument, Bottesini's success stems from his extraordinary talent overcoming the difficulties inherent in this instrument, which is not acutally intended for attrativeness, and him performing miracles with the double bass. Bottesini's outstanding performance with the double bass astonished the audience and music critics, making him known as the "Paganini of double bass". In this report, the piece Fantasia sulla "La Sonnambula", adapted from another Italian composer Bellini's "La Sonnambula", by composer, conductor and double bass virtuoso Bottesini, who laid the foundations for the double bass to be accepted as a solo instrument in its history and the technical level reached by today's double bass players, has been examined. During the comparison process between these two pieces, a detailed and comprehensive biography of Bottesini was also prepared. In the first part of this study, Bottesini's life and art has been presented considering his anxieties in his inner world as a composer and a double bass virtuoso. The second part of the report is devoted to the formal examiniation and the analysis of "La Sonnambula". In this review of the piece, the sections quoted and the variations consisting of these sections were analized and Bottesini's purpose and method of adapting the piece to double bass were investigated.
