According to the vaqfiyes vaqfs of Bursa in the XV. century

Waqf which has a long past in Turkish states and societies is a multi-dimensioncil institution which is related with the state and society and individuals. Seeving the usefulness for the state and the society the ottomans improved this institution in number and function. Since the establishment of the state It is institution gave different services in Bursa which had been the capital city of the Ottoman Satate in this study cultural and historical buildings in Bursa the XV. th century were examined. Through waqf documents. Our research deals with the religious, commercial social and educational institutions. In addittoin instituions founded for special purposes (such family waqfs, Harameyn waqfs and the waqfs for orphans) are mentioned. In the XVth century in Bursa Social groups and individuals who established Waqfs were studied statistically. In additon tho this biograghies of those who established Waqfs were given. In the study the waqfs in Bursa were classified according to their service purposes. This catagories are as foilows: 1- Waqfs founded for educational purpose 2- Waqfs founded for religious purpose 3- Social aid waqfs Under these topics medreses, zaviyes, libraries, mosques, small mosques, tombs, imarethanes, darüssifas and baths were examined. After waqfs and waqfs institutions of Bursa were examined tehir influences and contributions to the city Bursa also were studied.What the waqf institutions contribudet to the development of Bursa in terms of settlement improvement, fhsical appearance, trade, economy, education and culture was examined with awide perspective through information acquired from the vaqfiyes. In fact through this information social, cultural, educational and financal aspects ot the XV th century Bursa was displayed. Thus a definite period of the city history of Bursa and waqf institutions were examined in the light of the documents.
