Abstract (EN)
Folk bards are significant representatives of our folk culture, nurtured among the people and the creators of cultural products specific to their regions. They typically perform their works accompanied by the saz, passing down this tradition to future generations. This study focuses on compiling and documenting the works of Husamettin Ergol, a folk poet from the Ercis district of Van province. It analyzes the themes of his poems and their musical characteristics, including maqam scale, rhythm, rhythmic structure, and vocal range. Data collection for this study involved interviews and document analysis, employing narrative and descriptive qualitative research methods. The findings provide insights into the life and works of Husamettin Ergol, identifying a total of 35 works attributed to him, encompassing both lyrics and music. Among these, 28 works were composed solely by Husamettin Ergol, while the lyrics of 2 works were contributed by Ercisli Emrah. Additionally, 7 works had previously been compiled and notated in another study, with Husamettin Ergol recognized as their source. In this research, 28 works were newly compiled, notated, and recorded. The analyzed works predominantly adhere to the Huseyni-ussak maqam sequence, employing rhythmic patterns of 4/4 and 10/8 commonly found in the region. They also exhibit a vocal range within an octave. The primary themes explored in these works revolve around love, longing, and nostalgia for home. This study contributes to understanding the musical heritage of Turkish folk music, specifically within the minstrelsy tradition of the Van Ercis region."
