Trace element and mineral levels in varicose vein patients

Although there is no definitive etiological factor that can explain the structural changes in the venous wall, the differences in trace element concentrations in the varicose vein wall are are factors that play an important role in the pathogenesis of the venous pathology. In this study, we aimed to investigate serum Cu, Zn, Fe, Co, Mn, Se, Cr, Pb, K, Na, Ca, and serum serum Cu, Zn, Fe, Co, Mn in patients with varicose veins diagnosed with varicose veins disease and to further contribute to the literature on varicose veins disease. The research was conducted between November 2015 and May 2016. The patient group consisted of 49 varicose veins with a mean age of 31,92 ± 1,008 (26 males, 23 females) and a control group of 40 subject (22 females and 18 males) with a mean age of 31.86 ± 0.97. According to the results obtained, it is considered that the levels of Zn, Cu, Ca, Mg, Na and Cu / Fe ratio decrease significantly and the statistical increase of the Fe and Fe/Se ratio levels leads to varicose venace disease. In the correlation analyzes, Ca  Fe, Fe  Mg, Fe  Na, Fe  Se were statistically significant (p<0,01, p≤0,001, p≤0,001, p≤0,01 respectively). The correlation analysis showed that Fe element had an effect on Ca, Mg, Na ve Se elements. In order to determine the status of varicose vein disease, it is obvious that Ca, Mg, Na and Se elements should be evaluated in association with Fe element.
