Abstract (EN)

In essence, the Social Studies program was created with the aim of raising citizens who are loyal to Atatürk's principles and reforms, who internalize and protect their country and moral values, respect democracy and human rights, have the ability to think critically, are sensitive to the events surrounding them, do not shy away from producing, and are aware of their responsibilities. When we examine some points from this definition carefully, the Social Studies program actually aims to raise effective citizens. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was aware of the necessity of raising active and effective citizens in the first years of the Republic, when the people, who had just come out of wars, were struggling economically. He was aware that the country would not be able to develop unless military and economic victories were supported by education. He organized an education congress in 1921 with the slogan of giving direction to national education, before the end of the war. A leader who embraces the importance of education even in war; Of course, it will not be surprising that he wants to raise citizens who are loyal to their country and moral values, who can think critically, and who attach importance to science and production. Based on this idea, in a letter he wrote to İsmet İnönü; "The importance of patriotism is known in order to raise the children of the country as good citizens. I suggested that the necessary parts of the election, taxes, military service and civil information books for the citizen published so far by the teacher Afet Hanım should be brought together and arranged to be reprinted as the first volume of the civil information book for the citizen." This research has a qualitative design and data collection was carried out by document analysis method.
