The effect of parent home visits on the behaivors of students and teachers: A case study

The aim of this study is to examine and reveal the effects of home visits of parents, carried out at all educational levels of the Ministry of National Education, on the behavior of teachers and students. The research was designed as a qualitative study in the Phenomenology pattern. The study group of the research consists of 58 teachers working in the province of Erzincan and 110 students studying in these schools in the 2020-2021 academic year, on a voluntary basis. The research was created with a random sampling model, in which each unit in the universe has an equal and independent sampling probability. An open-ended interview form was used as a data collection method. The data were analyzed in four steps with the content analysis method. According to the results of the research, it was determined that teachers from all age and seniority groups participated in the study, and most of the teachers who participated in the study made more than one home visit. Thanks to home visits, it was understood that teachers, students and parents had the opportunity to get to know each other better and a close relationship was established between the parties. It has been observed that teachers understand the importance of home visits and visits are made for specific purposes. The students, who observed their teachers in a friendly conversation atmosphere, had the opportunity to get to know them better. After the home visits, the students stated that their interest and desire towards their lessons increased, their love and trust towards their teachers increased, and their families were more involved in the process.
