Abstract (EN)
Otitis media with effussion is a disease that is characterized with collection of fluid in the middle ear without having symptoms and findings of acute infection. It is an important cause of hearing loss in the childhood. The most common and effective treatment option is applying ventilation tubes (VT). Although the treatment is succesfull with VT, it can cause some complications. The most common complication is postoperative otorrhea. In this study, the effects and cost effectivity of postoperative oral and topical anibiotherapy to prevent otorrhea are evaluated. The study was performed between June 2010 and October 2011, in 60 patients who had an age range of 3-16. Postoperative early period was accepted as 2 weeks after the surgery. All the groups were consisted of 20 patients. In the first group, oral amoxycilline-klavulonic acide and in the second group topical ciprofloxacin was performed for 1 week. In the third group no medication was used. All the patients received Paracetamol analgesic and antipyretic oral suspension. The postoperative otorrhea rates were 5%, 10%, 15% respectively and and the groups were not significantly different statistically. The total otorrhea rate was 10%. The groups were evaluated for the cost effectivity and the control group was found to be the most cost-effective and costed 1.26euro.In conclusion, the groups given prophylactic antibiotherapy to prevent otorrhea and the control groups were not statistically different. According to the cost effectivity, prophylactic local or systemic antibiotherapy to prevent postoperative otorrhea may not be used, and treatment can be planned if otorrhea appears postoperatively.KEYWORDS, Otitis media with effusion, ventilation tube, otorrhea, ototopical gut, complication.
