Abstract (EN)
In this study, the removal of Methylene blue synthetic dye from aqueous environment was investigated by using vermicompost as an adsorbent. The adsorption studies were carried out as a function of dye concentration, contact time and pH of the solution. Batch adsorption experimental data were suitable for the Langmuir isotherm and a very good fit to the second order kinetic model (pH=10). The maximum adsorption capacity was found to be 256.66 mg g-1 . Both Vermicompost and the dye loaded vermicompost were characterized by FTIR and SEM. In addition to desorption studies were carried out for the system. The adsorption capacity of vermicompost did not change after five adsorption–desorption cycles. Hence, it was found that the vermicompost is stable without losing their activity.
