The effect of activities on understanding supported by Web 2.0 tools on the success of students' reading and listening understanding

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of reading and listening comprehension activities supported by Web 2.0 applications of secondary school 5th grade students on students' reading and listening comprehension achievements. For this purpose, in the application process of the research, semi-experimental design with pretest-posttest control group was used from quantitative research methods in the collection of data, analysis and interpretation of the obtained data. The research was carried out with a total of 72 5th grade students studying at a secondary school in Esenyurt district of Istanbul. The study was put into practice in the fall semester of the 2021-2022 academic year. Lessons were conducted in both experimental and control groups with the Turkish teacher who is the researcher himself. The lessons in the experimental groups were taught with activities for comprehension skills supported by Web 2.0 applications and in the control group with the activities in the Turkish textbook. In the study, students' reading and listening comprehension skills were measured and evaluated through the "Reading Comprehension Achievement Test" developed by Karasu, Girgin and Uzuner (2013) and the "Listening Comprehension Achievement Test" of Bulut (2013). Statistical calculations of the quantitative data obtained as a result of the research were made by t-test for dependent and independent samples. The findings obtained as a result of the research show that the reading and listening comprehension achievements of the students carried out with the activities for comprehension skills supported by Web 2.0 applications differ statistically significantly from the beginning of the experimental process to the aftermath of the experimental procedure.
