The effect of web supported problem based learning medium upon cognitive and efffective learning products: Gazi University Kastamonu Education Example

The goal of this study is to determine the effect of the use of the WEB supported problem based learning medium on the academic achievements, problem solving skills of the students and their attitudes towards the use of internet related to the topic ? heat and temperature?. The experimental application of the research was carried out on 68 third year students of Gazi University Kastamonu Education Faculty in 2006-2007 academic years. The experimental and the control groups were constituted by 30 and 38 student respectively. The study was realized by the use of pre test- post test control group experimental design .The data of the study were collected by the use of the academic achievement test on? heat and temperature?, problem solving skills attitude and the attitude test for the use of internet..The data obtained from the academic achievement tests and attitude surveys were evaluated with SPSS 15.0 program with the use of correlation and t test and the single factor variance analysis for the independent groups and double factor analysis for the repetitive measurement.The quantitative data of the study revealed that the use of the WEB supported problem based learning medium in the topic of ?heat and temperature ? had a statistically important impact upon the academic achievements of the students [F(1-119) = 145.48, p<0,05)]. Also the WEB supported problem based learning medium also caused a statistically significant change upon the problem solving skill of the students [F(1-119) = 19.55, p<0,05)]. However there was a statistically significant change in the attitudes of the students towards the use of internet [F(1-119) = 38.31, p<0,05)].The academic achievement and problem solving skills levels and their attitudes towards the use of internet were investigated according to gender and the high school graduated. The results obtained revealed that WEB supported problem based learning medium increased the academic achievement and the problem solving skills levels of the students their attitudes towards the use of internet.
