II ABSTRACT MASTER THESIS AUTOMATION ON WEB BASED DISTANCE EDUCATION Murat KARABATAK Fırat University Graduate School of Natural Applied Sciences Department of Electronics and Computer Education 2002, Page: 72 The Web Based Distance Education (WBDE) can be shortly defined as a sort of education in which the trainers and students need not to share the same places (classes). Different from the traditional approaches, this kind of education is a student- centered education. Students can learn subjects without depending on trainers and time intervals. The students can also communicate with their teachers using the technology. In this thesis, in order to use the Web Based Distance Education effectively, some properties, advantages and disadvantages of the web based distance education are considered. An automation system design for preparing more powerful an efficient web is also defined. The design and the benefits of the automation system that will make the WBDE active and reduce the trainer's burden are described. In the last section of thesis, an automation systems is proposed which allows the student to take the Numerical Analysis course and on line exams on the internet. The exams are automatically evaluated by the automation system. Key Words: Web, Automation, Internet
