Web Based Instruction On Students? Academic Success And Level Of Metacognition AwarenessThe purpose of this research is to define the effect of web based instruction on students? academic success and level of metacognition awareness. For this study, 86 students were selected (43 experimental group, 43 control group) in first semester of 2008-2009 academic year at Vali Ahmet Cemil Serhadli elementary school in province of Diyarbakir. Description of excel program, file, format, cell conception, entering formula, total and average formulas were taught.In this experimentally research, pretest and posttest were used with control group model. When establishing experimental and control groups, 4th grade success, personal characteristics, and pretest scores of students were considered. In experimental group lessons were thought with web based instructional program. In control group lessons were taught in traditional way (explanation, question-answers, and demonstration).According to research results, web based instruction improves level of cognitive success and metacognition awareness of students. It was found that there was statistically significant difference in metacognition awareness level of experimental group which was taught with web based instruction.These results show that web based instruction may have significant effects on metacognition awareness level of students.Key Words: Web based learning, Metacognition awareness, Academic success
