The effect of Web based teaching on students achievement in instructional technologies and material development course (The sample Technical Education Faculty of F.U.)

VI ABSTRACT Master Thesis The Effect of Web Based Teaching on Students' Achievement in Instructional Technologies and Material Development Course (The Sample Technical Education Faculty of F.U.) Cihad DEMİRLİ Firat University Institute of Social Sciences Department of Educational Sciences November 2002, Page: XV + 139 The main aim of the research is to determine the effect of web based teaching on students' achievement in instructional technology and materia! development course. In the context of the main aim a research was conducted taking in to consideration the third year students. In the departments of the Computer and Electronics Education of Technical Education Faculty at Firat University of the first and second type education, in the autumn term for 2000-2001 educational year. The total period of the research has comprised 181 days, from the planning stage to the completion of the project. The experimental sample of the research was determined making use of the model of the pre-test and post-test control group. The exemplification of the research consisted of 58 students as total, 34 as the experimental group and 24 as control group. In the scope of the research, the units of 'Introduction to Instructional Technology', 'Instructional Technologies and Communication', 'Materials in Instruction' and 'Instructional Materials and Designs' in the course of 'Instructional Technologies and Materials Development' have been instructed by means of web based teaching in the experimental group; and by means of traditional way of instruction in the control group. To measure the performance of the students in the mentioned units, an achievement test has been developed and a portfolio assessment process has been designed. This achievement test has been used as the pre-test and post-test as well. The statistical analysis of the findings has revealed that the traditional method, and of the same time the web based teaching have similar effects on the achievement of the students. On the other hand, the results of the portfolio assessment have pointed out that web based teaching is more effective on the students' achievement than the traditional method.
