Analysis of William Faulkner's novel Döşeğimde Ölürken and Adalet Ağaoğlu's novel Ölmeye Yatmak from psychoanalytic perspective

The psychoanalytic criticism that has been based on Sigmund Freud's works is applied in order to reveal the psychology of the author, his suppressed desires that push the author to write it, his unconscious world and as well as to examine the Works and to explain the reasons underlying the behavior of the people in his works. The aim of this thesis is to examine the similarities and differences between the two works that are from Turkish Literature Adalet Ağaoğlu's Ölmeye Yatmak and from American Literature William Faulkner's Döşeğimde Ölürken, by examining with a psychoanalytic sensitivity. In this thesis study, the concept of psychoanalysis, the appearance of psychoanalytic criticism and the unconscious sources of creation have been tried to explain from the opinions of various intellectuals. In the study, the short life and literary personalities of the two authors are also mentioned in order to better understand and examine the works. The focus of this thesis is to examine both works with basic concepts such as Freud's unconscious, id, ego, superego, analysis of dream, defense mechanisms, complex of oidipus, but views of various theorists are also included. In this thesis by based on the behavior and attitudes of individuals in both works, the underlying reasons are presented to researchers and readers.
