Acute effects of different loads of wingate anaerobic power test on respiratory functions in sedentary men

Abstract (EN)

Aim of this study was investigate change of different loads of Wingate anaerobic power test on respiratory functions. In total 16 healthy sedentary male subjects (n: 16, age: 23.81 ± 1.22) between age of 18 and 24 participated as volunteer in this study. This study was designed with randomized placebo-controlled and single-blinded crossover design. The experiment design was randomized placebo-controlled and single-blinded cross-over design. As required Wingate anaerobic power test procedure, 4 acute exercises was applied as 2.50%, 5.00%, 7.50% and 10.00% of test subjects weight with different loads. Subjects were provided to participate as randomize to the exercises that are different loads without knowing which load they were liable. Twenty four hours rest was given among acute exercises application. Respiratory function tests were made before and after every acute exercise application. With these tests FVC, FEV1, FEV1/FVC, PEF, FEF25%, FEF50%, FEF75%, FEF25-75%, PIF, MVV, ERV, IRV, TV, VCIN and VCEX features were obtained. Paired samples t-test was used to compare measured quantities before and after load. For being compared percent changes which are obtained at practices among other practices, repeated measures one way ANOVA and LSD tests were used. There was not seen a significant change respiratory functions at 2.50% load application (p>0.05). Significance was found at all respiratory functions at 10.00% load application (p<0.05). When practices were compared, it is determined that, Wingate anaerobic power test which were applied with 10.00% and 7.5% loads affect respiratory functions more than the practices in which 5.00% and 2.50 loads were used. As a result, it can be said that when Wingate anaerobic power test are applied with heavy loads, it affects the respiratory functions significantly.
