Abstract (EN)

Requirement for security in lightweight devices such as radio frequency identification tags (RFID) is increasing. Pseudorandom number generator (PRNG) is an essential part of the authentication protocols that provides security. Aim of this thesis is producing a lightweight PRNG for cryptographic applications in wireless identification and sensing platform (WISP) family devices and other lightweight devices. The proposed PRNGs in this work is produced with a genetic programming (GP) methods using entropy calculation as fitness function. Proposed PRNG is tested with NIST statistical test suite (NIST STS) and passes it successfully. It also satisfies the requirements of EPCGen2 standards. Also, a hardware random number generator (HRNG) that runs on WISP is designed, which uses the accelerometer sensor of WISP as an entropy source. This entropy source is post-processed with de-biasing and extraction methods to provide more uniformly distributed results that can be used in the authentication protocols between a RFID tag and an RFID reader. The obtained random number outputs of HRNG are also tested using the NIST STS and they pass all of the tests.
