By the mean of our thesis named, silk culture in Bursa, We aspired to bring up the importance and place of silk culture in Ottoman Empire especially at last period.We subjected to enterance of productivity and historical development of silk culture especially in XIX. Century on account of new Technologies. The income of silk culture, the production of silk culture, the volume in economy, the income of government is formed the content of our thesis.The proportion of the factories which opened in XIX. Century to the population who worked in the sector of industry.Furthermore; the activities of women who worked in silk culture is also formed the content of our thesis.Bursa, the first largest capital city of Ottomans; because of the geographical location, trading the West and the East, it has been meeting and scattering center of, especially trade life, and an active center of Ottomans.There is a rich source in Archive of Prime Ministration of our thesis. It is possible to follow the historical development of silk culture by means of the location in Bursa,the importance that given by Ottomans to silk culture, trading raw silk after weighted in Bursa trial balance.The thesis of silk culture in Bursa in XIX .century is formed by four parts.In the first part; the information about silk culture in Bursa before XIX. Century and circumstances of silk trade between XVI-VII century and XVIII, the trade of Silk Road and the volume of silk culture in Ottoman economy aregiven.In the second part silk culture in Bursa in XIX. century is examined comprehensively. The care of silk-worm, cocoon production, changes of production in years is examined in details with charts.On the other hand the diseases seen in silk culture mulberry gardens, silk clothes and variety of production are handled in that period.In the third part ; the developments which affected the silk culture in XIX. Century are mentioned. In this content The Treaty between Brtish and Ottomans, Trade Reform Commission, the economy is handled. The foundation of Harir Darü?t Talimi, The Royal Fabric of Bursa is surveyed. By the second half of century, the marketing of production with new development in industry with technology is searched.
