Communication, transportation and public works in Rize and surrounding areas between XIX. century and XX. century

The transformation had taken effect throughout the country during the Tanzimat era in which the Ottoman Empire implemented reforms in all areas. As a small residential area in the East Black Sea, Rize had taken place in the administrative system as a kaza unit linked to the Trebizond Vilayet. It had become the center of the Lazistan Sanjak with the changes in borders after the 1877-78 Ottoman-Russian War. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the current situation and the development stages of transportation, communication and public works starting from the beginning of the XIX. century until the pre and post periods of Rize's centralization process and create a literature the east that provides integrity regarding the subject.
