Abstract (EN)

This thesis aims to assess the impact of utilizing the XP-Rise Shaper (XPS) at different rotational speeds on postoperative pain in teeth diagnosed with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis during root canal treatment. The study included a total of 40 mandibular premolar teeth with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis, which were randomly assigned to two groups of 20 teeth each. Mechanical preparation was performed using the XPS system at two different speed settings. In the first group (n=20), instrumentation was conducted at a rotational speed of 1000 rpm, whereas in the second group (n=20), the speed was set at 2000 rpm. After the chemo-mechanical procedures, the root canal was obturated, and coronal cavity was restored in a single session. Postoperatively, ibuprofen was prescribed to patients in case they needed it. Pain levels were assessed using an 11-point numerical rating scale at 6, 24, 48, and 72 hours post-treatment. Additionally, the total amount of ibuprofen consumption was recorded at the same time intervals. For statistical analysis, Mann-Whitney U and Friedman tests were used. Z test of proportional comparison and Chi-square tests were used to determine the relationships between categorical variables. There was no statistically significant difference in postoperative pain between the two groups at all time intervals (p>0.05). Postoperative pain gradually decreased or disappeared within the groups over time. There was no statistically significant difference in analgesic intake between the different speed groups at the same time intervals (p>0,05). While no statistically significant difference was found in terms of postoperative pain and analgesic intake between periods in the 1000 rpm speed group (p>0,05), significantly higher pain and more analgesic intake occurred in the 2000 rpm speed group in the 6th hour compared to the other time periods (p<0,05).
