Abstract (EN)

The research about Gagavuzes started with V. A. Moschkov at the end of XIXth century and has made a great success by proceeding to hundreds of abstracts and books in the XXth century. Nevertheless any of the researchers in Turkey hasn't done any researches on Ottoman archives. The purpose of this study is to fill this emptiness. We have found the names of Gagavuzian people who lived in Silistre, Akkerman, Edirne, Gümülcine,Vize-Kırkkilise, Çirmen and Biga provinces from the books has been written about the censuses made at different times during the XVIth century. After that we took the names and we evaluated them by onomastic and toponimic point of view. As a conclusion we decided the results belove:The name Gagauz-Gagavuz was seen in Dobruca and Deliorman from Silistre province, the province of Bulgaria in the Black Sea shore; which the Gagavuzes who lived in the places that Selcukian Sultan İzzeddin IInd Keykavus (immigrated to Bizantini and has established the Ist Dobruca Oğuz State between the years 1261-1300) was sovereign on. It's been clear that the name Gagavuz is coming from the Turkmen people (coming from Anatollia (Konya-Karaman) in the leadership of Sarı Saltık Baba with 12000 tents) who were using the words Gaygavuz-Gagavuz. This situation has confirmed the statement of Turkhologist P.Wittek in 1952.Another result is; in the provinces that Gagavuzian people were living we can see that the most common names are Uz-Oğuz, we had the impression to say that 80% of them were from the Uz(Oğuz)es who has passed to Balcanian countries over Tuna, 10% of them were from the Kuman-Kıpçak Turks and 10% were from the Turks who has immigrated from Anatollia. This situation is confirming the statements of Moschov (1903), A.Manov and Michail Ciachir(the head priest-protoierey- of the Basarabya Gagavuzes and Historic) who were stating ?the Gagavuzes are the grandsons of the Uzes coming from the Kıpçak (Ucraine) steps to Balcanian countries?. We have made a synthesis as ? Despite the fact that most of the Gagavuzian people today are from Uz(Oğuz)es, we can say that Gagavuzian people today are a Christian Turkish society, in the historical perspective who were living in the lands of Uz-Oğuz, Kuman, Peçenek and Anatollian Selcuk Turks in Dobruca, and under the management of Bizantinian, they have accepted the Christian-Orthodox belief?.
