Evaluation of communicative approach and communicative competence within the frame of European language porfolio: The case of the eighth graders

Today, the science of communication is a huge bulk of studies both related to other areas of science and penetrating all walks of life. Teaching a second language is also directly related to communicational sciences as the aim of learning a language is to communicate. Moving from this point, it has been aimed to prove that communicational approach and competence, a major method for foreign language teaching, is the most efficient language teaching method for the 8th graders considering European Language Portfolio, a project to standardize and make language teaching more efficient among the members and the candidates. In order to prove that a questionnaire based on European Language Portfolio has been prepared and the 8th graders in Atatürk Secondary School in Şahinbey city of Gaziantep Province have been divided into two groups randomly: an experimental group and a control group. The questionnaire has been applied to both groups as pre-testing and post-testing. The means for each question have been compared using independent samples t-test. The results have proved our hypothesis. What is more, ten English teachers employed in Ministry of National Education have been interviewed deeply about communicational approach. All these studies have showed that communicational approach is still the most useful method in language teaching.
