Abstract (EN)

Turkish-Indian relationship can be traced back to a ancient times. Turkey's orientation towards India commenced a whole new era which strengthened the interaction among both sides in terms of cultural, religions, socio-economic and political fields and it is possible to see the traces of this interaction present day. According to Mahatma Gandhi, "India is a mother. He has tow children. One of them is Turkish and the other one is Indian. With the arrival of Turks in India, some significant historical changes occurred in the region, such as exchange of language and culture between Turks and Indians, living together for a long time. Comparative language studies are widely used to show the differences between Turkish and Urdu in tenses. Differences and similarities in grammar knowledge of the tow languages were determined by this method. In this study, first a detailed feature and conjugation of Turkish and Urdu tense modes are shown and their functions are explained. Both Turkish and Urdu grammar books discussed for definitions of tenses. Books on Urdu and Turkish grammar were examined and much respective research on tenses were evaluated in this study. In this study, in the introductory section, general information is given, with problem status, purpose and importance, sub-problem sentences, limitations, research method and definitions, which are briefly mentioned. In the second part, comparative grammar and foreign language teaching, typological features of Urdu and Turkish language, combination of tense, mode and aspect in Turkish and Urdu language have been widely extracted from the available sources and it has been shown whether or not it is in both languages. In the third chapter, the tenses (present, past, future and present tense) in Turkish and Urdu language are tried to be approached with a linguistic touch limited to the sameness, similarity and difference in morphological, structural and semantic aspect. In this study, suffixes of Turkey Turkish language, such as -DI, mIş, -(y)AcAk, -(I)yor, mAktA, -mAdA, -(A/I)r conjugation of verbs are comparatively examined, going through the Orhan Kemal's book "Avare Yıllar" which is translated in Urdu language titled "Bekar ke Mah-o Saal". I strongly believe, my thesis work will add up some more usefull drop to the ocean of researches done on Urdu-Turkish grammar, and also it will help both the nation in learning both languages easily. Keywords: Turkish, Urdu, Time, Comparison.
