The Aspects of foreign language reflecting to the society

SUMMARY Postgraduate Study THE ASPECTS OF FOREIGN LANGUAGE REFLECTING TO THE SOCIETY Esra GÜLMEZ Fırat Universty İnstitve of Social Sciences Department of Sociology 2001-Page 206 This study is a field search on the aspects of foreign language reflecting to the society. In this study, foreign language is dealt with its use on the areas of education with foreign language, business, media, daily life etc... On the prepared it questionnaire form, the people included to the search were asked twenty eight multiple-choice questions and an open-ended question. The obtained findings were showed on fifty two tables/charts. According to findings, people were tried to determine with their individual features as sex, place of birth, age, marital status, level of education; and their attitudes, thoughts and reactions as their language choice, places they want to live in, channels they watch, newspapers they read, etc,., On the research at last, the findings containing tendencies on foreign language, which emphasises the importance of this subject, were given place. Consequently, It was determined that the most of individuals are not aware of "the language consciousness". Even if individuals gave an impression to have the language consciousness, inconsistent choices were seen with the prepared cross-relations. It was that, the individuals in fact, marked the choices randomly. Key words: foreign language, native language cultural imperialism, language consciousness, popular culture, mass communication.
