Abstract (EN)

The first chapter of this study begins with the defination of ?investment? in the economic terminology, global economy. In the following sections, the most important theories of foreign direct investment (FDI) and motives for FDI are presented. The chapter concludes with some data on multinational firms and the economic effects of FDI on both home and host countries.The second chapter analyses FDI Turkey. Turkey?s potential for attracting FDI, and its competitive position relative to some other countries in the region is studied. After the sectoral breakdown of FDI in Turkey is analyzed, some suggestions on economic and political measures for increasing the inflow of FDI in to Turkey are made.In the third and final chapter, some economic and financial observations are made using the data from ?The 500 Largest Industrial Firms in Turkey? compiled by the İstanbul Chamber of Commerce. The economic performance and financial health of these firms (public, private and foreign capital firms) are compared to find out whether there are any significant differences.
