An investigation of foreign primary school students' Turkish listening and reading anxiety levels in terms of different variables

This study was carried out to examine the Turkish listening and reading anxiety levels of foreign primary school second, third and fourth grade students whose mother tongue is not Turkish in terms of different variables. This study was conducted in the relational survey model. The study group of the research consists of 219 foreign national second, third and fourth grade students studying in three public schools and four private schools affiliated to Antalya Provincial Directorate of National Education. Foreign Language Listening Anxiety Scale (Primary School Form), Foreign Language Reading Anxiety Scale (Primary School Form) and Personal Information Form adapted by the researcher were used as data collection tools. The analysis of the research data was carried out using the SPSS programme. The adaptation studies of the two scales were carried out first. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) were conducted. After the normality of the research data was tested, T-Test and ANOVA tests were used for the data showing normal distribution in data analysis. According to the findings of the study, it was found that foreign students studying in primary school; • Turkish listening anxiety does not show a significant change according to gender, class level and alphabet difference variables, • It was concluded that Turkish reading anxiety averages were higher according to gender and there was a significant difference in favour of female students, but there was no significant difference according to class level and alphabet difference variables.
