The place and importance of foreign experts in Turkey's working life (1930-1945)

The Republic of Türkiye, founded in 1923, had important goals. In line with these goals, successful in the field of economy; It was necessary to create a strong society in the fields of culture and education. Studies started in a short time in line with the decisions taken at the Izmir Economics Congress. Two important problems were identified in front of the work to be done. It was the lack of capital and the lack of qualified personnel. It was decided to meet this need with the help of foreign experts. The government invited famous people to our country in whatever field it needed qualified personnel. Foreign experts in many branches such as economy, education, culture, art and public works were invited to our country from different countries, enabling institutions to work more efficiently. Foreign experts provided the foundation for many institutions of a newly established state and the regulation of the deteriorated institutions. The Central Bank, Sümerbank, Etibank, etc., which was established within the framework of the understanding of statism in the economy that started in 1930. In order for the organizations to start operating as soon as possible, studies were started by bringing experts in the relevant field from foreign countries. These foreign experts did not only work in the institution they came from. They trained hundreds of engineers, doctors, teachers, artists and workers. They opened new institutions and prepared the plans of the institutions. They worked on the construction of new roads and new buildings by preparing the country's reconstruction activity. They helped in the reconstruction and modernization of many cities, especially the capital Ankara. In addition, they trained the staff to work in that institution in the following years. The basis of the level of development that Turkey has reached today was the invitation of foreign experts to our country in the 1930s and the efforts of our people who worked with them in self-sacrifice. In this study, it has been tried to explain the studies and contributions of foreign experts in the development of Turkey between the years 1930-1945.
