Analysis of stories prepared for teaching Turkish to foreigners in terms of core values

The aim of this study is to systematically examine the Aslı Story Series and the Turkish Stories for Foreign Students sets, which are used in teaching Turkish to foreigners, within the framework of the root values included in the curriculum by the Ministry of National Education (justice, friendship, honesty, self-control, patience, respect, love, responsibility, patriotism, and helpfulness). Conducted within the qualitative research paradigm, the data in the study were analyzed using descriptive analysis. Within the scope of the research, a total of 30 storybooks in the Aslı Story Series and the Turkish Stories for Foreign Students sets were analyzed in detail in terms of content. In the data analysis, the visibility of the root values in the stories was identified and supported with direct quotations from the relevant sections. The findings show that in the Aslı Story Series the most frequently emphasized values are helpfulness, responsibility, and honesty, while the least emphasized are patriotism, justice, and patience. In the Turkish Stories for Foreign Students set, the most frequently included values are honesty and responsibility, while the least included values are patriotism and justice. The findings indicate that both story sets largely reflect the root values at the A1–B2 levels and are suitable materials for teaching Turkish to foreigners.
