Adaptation study of Mustafa Ciftci's story of "Ağlaya Ağlaya Öldük Anam Bacım" in teaching Turkish too foreigners to level B1 and readability

Foreign language learning and teaching is becoming more important day by day and is seen as a necessity. With its influence, power and geopolitical importance in the world, Turkish has become a language that foreigners want to learn. In recent years, with the arrival of many foreign students in Turkey, teaching Turkish to foreigners has been an area that has attracted a lot of attention and studies have been carried out. Reading, which is one of the four basic skills in language teaching, is a skill that needs to be studied and developed. When we look at the researches, it is striking that reading materials are scarce in quantitative terms and only textbooks are used as reading materials. It has been deemed appropriate to carry out this study in order to eliminate this deficiency in the field. The short story genre is a literary genre that can be easily read and recommended to students who are learning a new language. However, in the field of teaching Turkish to foreigners, there are very few adaptation studies to A1, A2, B1 and B2 levels. Story adaptation studies will both contribute to the field and ensure the transfer of Turkish culture, mentality and values to students who are new to the language. The last work of Mustafa Ciftci, one of the most important writers of Turkish storytelling, which contains a total of 16 stories, is aimed to be an example and a resource in the field by adapting it in accordance with the B1 level determined in the European Common Framework of Reference for Languages and the Istanbul Turkish Textbook for Foreigners. By applying Çetinkaya's readability formula in the adapted stories, it was first determined at which education level the original texts were, and then the readability level of the texts adapted to the B1 level was revealed.
