Evaluation of Yunus Emre Institute Youtube lecrute videos in terms of creating cultural awareness in teaching Turkish to foreigners

One of the important aspects in teaching Turkish to foreigners is the process of creating cultural awareness. The sole purpose of this process is not only to teach the language itself, but also equip learners with intercultural communication skills. In this context, the aim of the research is to evaluate the lesson videos available on the Yunus Emre Institute's YouTube page in terms of creating cultural awareness in teaching Turkish to foreigners. This research was conducted using a qualitative design, employing document analysis as the method. The study examined the instructional videos titled. "Türkçe Öğreniyorum" (I am learning Turkish) provided by the Yunus Emre Institute, which offers asynchronous distance learning via YouTube. The data collected was analyzed using content analysis. The research findings indicate that cultural elements were identified in all levels of A1, A2, B1 and B2. Across all levels examined, the most common cultural elements were found in the topics of "Suffixes, Verbs, Phrases and Phonological Features." The most frequently used cultural elements were "Turkish Names" and "Turkish City Names." However, it was observed that the distribution of cultural elements in the "Türkçe Öğreniyorum" (I am learning Turkish) video lessons of the Yunus Emre Institute was not evenly balanced, as some elements were not addressed at all.
