A study on teaching necessary forms for foreigners in Turkish

In English, studies related to language for specific purpose were started in the 60s and on the other side researches devoted to teaching English for specific purpose were begun in the 80s. Wheras in Turkish studies this field of linguistics and issues related to its teaching have started recently. Therefore studies on language for specific purpose should be increased in Turkish. The main purpose of this study is to make a linguistic description of bureaucratic language, to analyze forms which have been collected from public institutions and to present general linguistic features of Turkish bureaucracy language. Then, based on the characteristic features of Turkish bureaucracy language, a useable course material suggestion was prepared for teaching Turkish as a foreign language. To accomplish the purpose, concepts of language for specific purpose and of standart language have been explained. After this, a classification and general linguistic features of bureaucratic language have been described with great extent of scope. Thereafter the place of bureaucratic language in teaching Turkish as a foreign language has been explained and their language levels have been analyzed. Lexical and grammatical features of Turkish bureaucratic language have been described in this theoretic framework. In the last part of the study, in regard to the linguistic features of the forms which have to be filled out by foreigners, it has been tried to develop an example of course material which can be applied in teaching bureaucratic Turkish as a foreign language. The developed material has not been evaluated and assessed in real teaching situations.
