Ability of foreigners to learn of Turkish

In this research, the foreign teaching personnel?s Turkish learning abilities who serve in our country, their interest in Turkish and the Turkish culture have been researched and their mistakes in the usage of Turkish have been evaluated.The research has been limited with the foreign teaching staff from various departments in the Izmir University of Economics. While searching publications and studies about documentary searching method, statistical model is used for scanning. The data was collected through a semi-structured Interview Form that included open and clouse-ended questions.The Izmir University of Economics has the necessary education language and has many elective languages to offer as a university. For this reason the university has many foreign teachers that come from various countries. Many foreign teachers from Europe, America, Africa and Asian Countries work in the Izmir University of Economics.These teaching personnel?s, inside and outside the university are surrounded by Turkish culture. In the introduction of Turkish culture, Turkish has great importance. When thought very generally, with the cultures knowing one another, bonding, the removal of prejudice and the development of international peace, these foreign teachers learning Turkish and the Turkish culture, will play an important role.In research, the interest towards Turkish abilities and Turkish culture by the foreign nationals that work in our country, have been researched by examining; the teaching staff?s age, gender, the country they came from, how they learnt Turkish, and the time they have lived in Turkey.As a result; out of 55 full time foreign personnel?s in the Izmir University of Economics; the women?s teaching personnel?s percentage with the men?s, showed that the ones whose age was younger compared to the others when using a language is involved, are more successful. That the teaching personnel?s who come from the Asian continent, Turkish abilities are shown to be higher and more successful in teaching language than the teaching personnel?s who come from the European, American and the African continents has been concluded. The foreign teaching personnel?s who have worked in Turkey for a long time have been more successful in learning a language, the teaching personnel?s differences between their successes and skills have been shown that an important difference wasn?t found, and the teaching personnel?s who are happy with living in Turkey and learning Turkish are shown to be more successful in learning a language.
