Abstract (EN)

The chemical characterization of Wild Cherry (Prunus avium L.) wood and its barks and its use in the leather industry were investigated. This master's thesis has been prepared Düzce University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Forest Industry Engineer, Wild Cherry (Prunus avium L.) which has a natural distribution within the boundaries of the Elmalık Forestry Management Department of Bolu Forest Regional Directorate has been selected as the material. It has been found that the quantitative chemical composition values are within the limits of the values in the literature. Tannin yield experiments were carried out from bark with different concentrations (%1, %2, %5) and proportions (1/6, 1/8, 1/10) (liquid-solid) with hot water, NaOH, Na2SO3 and Na2CO3 solutions. Optimal conditions have been determined as a result of yield calculations. The tannins obtained from the optimum extraction conditions (1/8 hot water and 2%NaOH-1/8) were applied to the leather. The stiasny number and methanol-water solubility values of the obtained tannins were determined. As a result of application of the obtained tannin on the leather, the effect on the thickness and color was observed. The increase in leather thickness was shown to be adequate for shoemaking, accessory, bags and etc. where visual effects are requested.
