Abstract (EN)
Obesity is mainly caused by consuming a high-fat diet that results in increased fatty acids circulating throughout the body. These lipid metabolites have been shown to alter a number of metabolic pathways leading to increased oxidative stress affecting the intracellular glucose oxidation process and thus to the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) affecting mitochondrial biogenesis. Because diets rich in saturated fatty acids lead to a decrease in basal rates, higher body weights and fat gain compared to diets containing predominantly unsaturated fatty acids, dietary fat content and fatty acid saturation, including lipid mitochondrial membranes Affects the structure. Disorders of mitochondrial membrane fluidity include the functions of carriers, calcium dynamics, gene expression, and post-translational protein modifications. Therefore, mitochondrial function and ROS production should therefore be influenced by dietary fat intake. These links have also been demonstrated in animal studies. In this study, three groups of mice were subjected to three different dietary regimens. (one was fed on a normal diet, the other two fed with saturated fat (HF). One of the HFDs had 50% of fat and was given as menhaden oil with n-3-rich fatty acids). Samples were collected from the livers of the mice. Our data suggest that HF disrupts mitochondrial bioenergetics, while n-3 fatty acids in menhaden oil may offer benefits when used in place of saturated fat.
