Özet (EN)

This study aims to determine the effect of emotional state and ruminative thinking levels on mindfulness in traditional oil wrestling athletes. Additionally, it investigates whether the variables of emotional state, rumination, and mindfulness differ according to age, age of starting sports, monthly income level, and whether there is an athlete in the family. The population of the study consists of male oil wrestling athletes aged between 17 and 35 residing in the central and district areas of Antalya, Türkiye. The sample includes 336 volunteer athletes who agreed to participate in the study. A normality test was conducted to analyze the data, and parametric tests were used for variables that showed a normal distribution. An independent samples t-test was applied to compare two groups, while a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used for comparisons involving more than two groups. Pearson correlation analysis was performed to examine the relationships between variables. According to the research findings, rumination showed a significant positive correlation with the non-judging subdimension of mindfulness, and a significant negative correlation with the awareness and refocusing subdimensions. Positive emotional state was positively associated with awareness, non-judging, and refocusing, while negative emotional state was negatively associated with awareness and refocusing, but positively with non-judging. Furthermore, as age and income level increased, athletes' positive emotional states and mindfulness levels increased, while their rumination levels decreased. It was also found that athletes with family members engaged in sports had higher levels of mindfulness and positive emotional states, whereas those who started sports at an earlier age exhibited higher levels of rumination. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the psychological and cognitive processes influenced by psychological and demographic factors in traditional oil wrestling athletes.
