Abstract (EN)

In this study, the understanding of environment in the context of human-nature relationship in Judaism, Christianity and Islam has been examined. Environmental pollution has notably increased in the last two centuries; thus, it has gained a global dimension. In order to solve this crisis, alternative disciplines have started to handle the issue and at this point the field of ecotheology, which examines the relationship between religion and environment, has emerged. This study aims to contribute to this field and consists of four chapters. In the first one, the concepts of environment, environmental pollution and ecotheology are defined and the historical, intellectual and social background of environmental pollution is discussed. In the second, third and fourth chapters, the environmental understanding of Judaism, Christianity and Islam has been tried to be revealed within the framework of the human-nature relationship, respectively. Important religious practices and distinct understandings of these three faiths are also discussed by evaluating various interpretations. The values of these religions and their practices intertwined with the texture of daily life are explained. In this context, the role of religion in the lifestyle that affects the environment has been shed light on.
