Abstract (EN)

Our work, that we examined Yahya Kemal Beyatlı's and Antonio Machado's thoughts on civilization, consists of four chapters. Both poets were influenced by the thoughts of Henri Bergson, the French philosopher. Hence the first part is about Henri Bergson. In this part we mentioned his philosophy of intuition and duration after the chapters about his life and his Works. In the second and third parts we examined Yahya Kemal Beyatlı and Antonio Machado. In both parts the subtitles are mostly similar to each other. We tried to indicate the influence of Henri Bergson, the French philosopher, on these two poets in the forth and last chapter. In the conclusion of our thesis, we have tried to compare and contrast the thoughts of both poets. In our whole study, we have tried to indicate that Yahya Kemal Beyatlı and Antonio Machado stand out not only with their literary identities but also with their contributions to the Turkish and Spanish thought-world and nationalism throughout their Works. Keywords: Henri Bergson, Yahya Kemal Beyatlı, Antonio Machado, civilization, nationality, duration, intuition, prolongation, temporality
