The medium role of the supply chain relationship in the effect of lean production on supply performance: A study on manufacturing enterprises

Nowadays, with the rapid development of technology and the growth of the economy, the competitive environment is increasing and is appearing in all sectors. Business which want to survive in this increasingly competitive environment have to improve themselves and adapt to the innovations brought by the age. It is known that the lean production approach, which emerged in Japan in the second half of the 20th century and spread rapidly all over the world, is important in terms of the benefits it provides to business. However, applying lean production systems alone is not enough to achieve success. For this, supply chain relationship, lean production systems and supply performance issues should be examined separately and the relationship between them should be evaluated. In addition, business need to be aware of supply chain management and pay attention to this issue. For this reason, in this study on manufacturing enterprises, it is aimed to reveal the supply chain relationship in the effect of lean production on supply performance and to create the necessary plans and strategies of the enterprises in this direction. In the first part of the study, the subject of lean production has been emphasized and in the second part, the subject of supply chain and supply chain management has been examined. In the third part, the subject of performance in the supply chain has been studied. Finally, in the fourth part which includes the application part of the research, the intermediary role of the supply chain relationship in the effect of lean production on the supply performance has been discussed. In order to test the models and hypotheses created within the scope of the purpose, data were collected from 256 manufacturing enterprises registered in the Erzincan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Turkey. The relational survey method, one of the quantitative research methods, is used in the research and a questionnaire form is used as a data collection tool. The obtained data is analysed using SPSS 22.0 and AMOS programs. As a result of the analysis, it is determined that lean manufacturing has a positive effect on supply performance, lean manufacturing has a positive effect on supply chain relationship, supply chain relationship has a positive effect on supply performance, and finally, supply chain relationship has a mediating role in the effect of lean manufacturing on supply performance.
