Abstract (EN)
The construction sector is a locomotive of the Turkish economy, providing extensive employment opportunities and standing out as one of the country's strongest fields on the international stage. However, it has also become one of the riskiest sectors in terms of occupational health and safety (OHS), with the highest number of fatal workplace accidents occurring in this area. Although OHS encompasses a broad range of disciplines, it remains a relatively new field within the construction sector. To reduce the rate of fatal accidents, various inadequacies have been identified in the implementation of existing laws and regulations. With the enactment of Law No. 6331 on OHS, it has become mandatory to identify hazards and risks at construction sites and to implement control measures. However, the rapid variability of construction processes diminishes the effectiveness of risk assessment factors, leading to the completion of work processes often without the application of recommended control measures. Therefore, focusing on the systematic identification of risks and hazards at the beginning of construction projects is of utmost importance. The risk analyses conducted will contribute to enhancing the safety of construction processes and improving the effectiveness of OHS efforts, ultimately aiding in the prevention of accidents. This study evaluates the implications for the construction sector regarding the identification of risks and hazards and the implementation of control measures before the construction phase begins. In this context, risk assessments will be created first, followed by observations made on a local construction project where these assessments will be addressed. The aim is to approach the risk assessments of structures such as buildings, roads, and tunnels from a different perspective, rather than merely providing a general overview.
