DETERMINATION OF SNOW LOADS ON STRUCTURES (M. Sc. Thesis) M. Levent Koç GAZI UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY ABSTRACT Roof snow load depends on some fators such as roof exposure to wind and sun, roof geometry, thermal losses from the building and roof materials. However, roof snow load in practise determined according to ground snow load in the building area. So ground snow load which is a random variable is the basis component of snow load for the design. In this paper, ground snow loads were determined by statistics methods for Sivas region and roof snow loads were calculated by these loads. Results were presented and the approach of TS.498 (Turkish Standards) for the subject was evaluated with the results.
