Work safety studies in structure demolition operations by blasting

With the developing technology, it has become necessary to construct structures for new reconstruction plans by demolishing the structures that has been completed in useful life and spoil the urban reconstruction plan in cities and districts. Especially in metropolitan cities, many buildings have been built, mainly residential buildings, for a long time due to the intensity of migration. With the use of old technology in these buildings and the years passed, both the strength of the concrete used is significantly lower and the reinforcement of the pieces of concrete that break up and breaks out, rusting and losing its old function makes this matter important. In the 28498 numbered Official Gazette dated 15.12.2012, in accordance with 6306 numbered "Law on the Transformation of Disaster Risk Areas" it has become compulsory to demolish the buildings in such settlements in a controlled manner and to transform them into urban transformation. In the thesis, possible sources of danger were determined in blasting and demolition studies, Failure Mode Effect Analysis was performed and necessary measures were taken to reduce high risk groups to acceptable risk level. Some of the demolition studies in the literature and industry have been used as examples. According to the results of the analysis, two critical types of hazards have come to the fore. The first one is the lack of a suitable blast design model coded H2; the other one is the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) coded H19. As a result, all hazards in the study were reduced to acceptable risk levels by measures; however, H2 and H19 hazards are identified as hazards that should be kept under control as they remain above the critical 100 value in HTEA despite the precautions taken.
