Abstract (EN)
The construction industry is crucial for economic development and infrastructure advancement, yet it is inherently risky. These risks can significantly impact project parameters such as cost, duration, quality, and other essential objectives. This research explores the cash flow delay risks in construction projects using Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS). Effective cash flow management is critical, especially in high-leverage projects where the failure to meet short-term obligations can lead to bankruptcy. This study examines how MCS can be utilized to quantify cash flow delay risks in construction projects. The goal is to ascertain the monetary reserve required to manage these risks after their quantification with MCS. The methodology involves analyzing project data through MCS, which includes expected cash inflows, planned cash outflows, and relevant risk factors. The simulation updates cash flow projections by modeling potential delays using random values derived from a triangular distribution. This approach allows for the quantification of cash flow delay risks. The simulation results indicate the maximum net cash requirement projects may face, based on selected probability levels, and facilitate the determination of the necessary monetary reserve. Thus, proactive risk management strategies can be developed to enhance project resilience against these risks. Future research could focus on integrating MCS with additional financial risk factors such as exchange rates, inflation, interest rates, and credit risk to develop a more comprehensive risk management approach. Utilizing MCS for cash flow risk management in construction projects can enhance the ability to manage uncertainties and support the development of more effective risk management practices.
