Özet (EN)

Wound is the impairment of soft tissues? anatomic structure and function. Wound healing is the process of the biochemical events that starts with trauma and eventuates with new tissue formation. Followed by operative or traumatic damage of the tissue, the prior mission of all organisms is to cease hemorrhage, prevent infection, repair the impaired anatomic entirety and functional structure. Various growth factors, like EGF, play an important role in wound healing. There are plenty of studies about the effect of local or systemic administration of EGF on wound tissue at wound healing process; however the number of studies about the effect of EGF on internal organs is insufficient. Therefore, we planned to investigate the effects of systemically administered EGF on collagen and protein synthesis of liver tissue. In our study, 48 male Wistar-Albino rats (weight: 200-250g) are used. Dorsolateral excisional wounds are made on the rats and they are divided into 2 groups: 1- Non-treated control group, 2- Systemic EGF administered group. EGF is administered intraperitonally (IP) on post-operation days and the animals are sacrificed on 1, 5, 7 and 14th days by exsanguination under anesthesia. Livers are removed immediately avoiding contamination and stored at ?30 0C. Tissue collagen and protein measurements are performed by modified Lowry method and Lowry method, respectively. Mann Whitney U test is used for statistical analysis of the results. As a result, also taking phases of wound healing into consideration, EGF is found to stimulate collagen and protein synthesis until 7th and 5th days, respectively; however it is found that this stimulation disappeared on the following days and EGF repressed collagen and protein synthesis.
