Investigation of level of serum interleuki̇n 17 in age-related macular degenerati̇on

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a non-recyclable visual disorder among elderly people worldwide and AMD is one of the leading causes of blindness. AMD is a multifactorial disease in which both environmental and genetic factors are effective. The effect of genetic factors on the incidence and progression of AMD is demonstrated in studies. Interleukins; Intracellular communication, cell growth and differentiation, which plays an important role in the development and homeostasis of the immune system, which is a subset of the cytokine family protein structure molecules. Interleukins vary according to the place they are synthesized and the tasks they do. Although interleukin 17 is produced by Th17 cells, it is also known to be produced by a wide variety of cells. In this study, the relationship of serum interleukin 17 with age-related macular degeneration was evaluated. In this study which included 100 patients with AMD and 100 healthy controls, elisa technique was used. In the results of the study, the relationship between the patient and control groups of interleukin 17 was found statistically significant (p:0.001). It was found that gender difference in patients did not affect interleukin 17 levels. Key words: Age-related macular degeneration, Elisa, Interleukin 17.
