8. SUMMARYThe effects of vecuronium, cisartracurium, and rocuronium on the intubation, extubationand recovery times in elderly patientsAim: It is reported that, neuromuscular blockage and recovery time are prolonged withnondepolarising muscular blockers in elderly patients. In our study, we aimed to research theeffects of rocuronium, vecuronium and cisartracurium on recovery time in elderly patients, afteran abdominal surgery.Material and Method: Sixty patients, over 65 years old with ASA II-III to whom electiveabdominal operations were planned, were included in this study after approval of ethics comittee. The cases were randomly divided into three groups as group V (n=20), group S (n=20), group R(n=20). In these cases, ECG, blood pressure, peripheric O saturation, body temperature were2monitorised and in addition neuromuscular junction was monitorised with train of four (TOF).Following a standart anaesthesia induction, in Group R rocuronium, in Group V vecuronium andin Group S cisartracurium were used as muscle relaxants. At the end of the operation, when four response to TOF were obtained, cases were extubated andtaken to the recovery room. Mean blood pressure, heart rate, SpO TOF ratio were assesed and2,noted both during surgery and in the recovery room while Modifiye Aldrete Score (MAS) andclinical assesment tests were noted in the recovery room every ten minute period. In addition, intubation and extubation times, the duration of recovery room stay and the complications arisedwere notedResults: The intubation time in Group R was significantly shorter than Group V and Group S andin Group S it was significantly shorter than Group V. There was no significant differencebetween the groups regarding clinical assesment tests which were positive seperately andcompletely; MAS=8 and TOF ratio of 0.9 times; extubation time and the duration of recoveryroom stay. No complication was observed during surgery and in the recovery room. Conclusion: It was concluded that, train of four and clinical tests should be used together with atthe evaluation of recovery after abdominal surgery in elderly patients. Addionally, whileintubation time of rocuronium was shorter, the effects of rocuronium, vecuronium andcisartracurium on recovery and extubation time were not different.Key Words: Elderly patient, recovery after surgery, train of four, clinical evaluation tests, rocuronium, vecuronium, cisartracurium
