Abstract (EN)
The stereotype threat refers to the impact of individuals on the performance of generalized judgments of the group they are a member of. In the current research it has been investigated how stereotype threat about aging affects the memory performance of older adults between 55-70 years old. In this study, the participants in the negative stereotype group were presented a text with negative stereotypes, the participants in the positive stereotype group were presented a text with positive stereotypes and the the participants in the control group were presented a text without any stereotype threat. In order to monitor how long the stereotype threat affects the memory performance of the participants, a memory task was presented to the participants immediately after the end of the first task. In the negative group, another task is presented to another group ( negative stereotype threat- delayed memory estimate group)of non-memory-related tasks before memory tasks, in order for the negative text to be presented in order to see if the impact of the performance of the judicial threat is independent of the test-taking effect. The results showed that the negative and positive stereotype threat did not have a significant effect on the memory performance of older adults. There was a significant relationship between the memory performance of the elderly and the gender and education level of the participants. It has been observed that women have significantly better memory performance compared to men and the participants who are educated at university and above have significantly better memory performance compared to educated pre-university.
