An examination of attitudes towards the elderly according to the views of X, Y and Z generations

Aging is an important period that affects the structures and social relations of societies. Individuals in the aging process face changing social roles and changing physiological functions between different generations. This study aimed to examine attitudes towards the elderly in the context of different demographic variables. Data analysis showed that there were no statistically significant differences between generations in terms of attitudes towards the elderly. The analysis of quantitative and qualitative data revealed that, in general, there were similar opinions between the generations. However, demographic factors such as gender, parental living status, and family type were found to affect attitudes towards the elderly. In addition, the living status of the parents was also effective in determining attitudes. In the case of the death of the mother, it was observed that there was a more positive attitude towards the elderly. Family type was another factor affecting attitudes towards the elderly. It was determined that individuals raised in a large family structure generally had more positive attitudes towards the elderly. These findings suggest that understanding the effects of factors such as gender, family structure, and parental living situation on attitudes towards the elderly may help professionals working with the elderly to provide a more sensitive and effective service. In conclusion, attitudes towards the elderly were found to be complex and influenced by various demographic factors. The findings of this study suggest that services and social approaches towards the elderly population should be developed by taking demographic differences into account. Future research could be based on further analysis to develop services for the elderly in a more comprehensive and demographically diverse manner.
