Daily spiritual experience and quality of life in the elderly

The subject of the study is to explain the relationship between daily spiritual experience, life quality and demoghraphic variables in the elderly. The purpose of the research is to explain relationship between daily spiritual experience and life quality in the elderly. 310 people aged 65 and over living in Turkey participated in research. Parcipants were selected using purposeful sampling technique. In collecting data, the daily spiritual experiences scale, a 16-question 6-point Likert- type scale developed by Underwood and Teressi (2002) and adapted into Turkish by Akın, Özbek, Toprak, Akbaş, and Çitemel (2013), was used. The 24-question quality of life scale for the elderly and a demographic information form of the World Health Organization, designed by Power et al. (2005) and adapted into Turkish by Eser et al. (2010), were used. Data analysis was done with SPSS 27 package program. According to the results of the research, a weak, significant positive relationship was found between quality of life and daily spiritual experiences. Daily spiritual experiences differ according to gender. Women's average daily spiritual experience is higher than men. Daily spiritual experiences differ depending on educational status. Those without education have higher spiritual experiences than university graduates. Daily spiritual experiences differ depending on the economic situation. The spiritual experiences of those in a good economic situation are higher than those in a poor economic situation. There is a relationship between constant drug use and daily spiritual experiences. Those who do not use medication constantly have higher spiritual experiences. Daily spiritual experience does not vary depending on the individual's living situation, marital status, chronic disease status, or health status.
