Examining the relationship between the quality of life and health care system distrust in the elderly: A research in Yozgat province

The purpose of this research is to examine the relationships between the quality of life of individuals over the age of 65 living in Yozgat and their perception of distrust towards the health system. The population of the research consists of individuals over the age of 65 living in Yozgat. Within the scope of the study, 478 elderly individuals were reached and data were collected through face-to-face survey. Data collection was carried out between 01 September 2023 and 01 November 2023. Pearson correlation analysis and equation modeling with SPSS AMOS were used in the analysis of the data. It was found that the quality of life in the elderly was at a low level and the perception of distrust in the health system was at a moderate level. As a result of the correlation analysis, it was determined that there was a negative, statistically significant and moderate relationship between quality of life in the elderly and distrust in the health system. According to the results of structural equation modeling, it was found that the effect of quality of life on distrust in the health system in the elderly was 10%. Accordingly, 10% of the distrust in the healthcare system stemmed from quality of life. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that the increase in quality of life reduced the distrust in the health system statistically significantly. Developing a sense of trust is important to live a healthy life and improve the quality of life.
