The factors that affect depression levels and burden of caregivers of the bedridden patients

The purpose of this study is important for investigation of depression levels of relatives of bedridden patients, their care burden and to what extent the factors affecting the care burden affect the individuals. In addition, factors such as gender, care burden, depression level, education status and marital status of the person providing the care were investigated. 100 bedridden patients and caregivers providing care to the patient who live in the Anatolian (Asian) side of İstanbul were included in the research. Beck Depression Scale, Zarit Caregiver Burden Scale, Rivermead Mobility Index were utilized as data collection tools. At the same time a Personal Information Form was created by researchers to determine the socio-demographic characteristics of patients and their relatives. When socio-demographic characteristics of the study is examined ; women compared to men, divorced/widowed individuals compared to other individuals, employed people compared to unemployed people were found to have higher levels of depression. As the score received by individuals from the care burden increases the score they receive from the depression also increases.
