Analysis of generalized anxiety symptoms in therms of schema therapy model

Abstract (EN)

The aim of the present study is to examine to what extent perceived parenting styles, early maladaptive schemas and maladaptive coping styles predict generalized anxiety symptoms; it has been researched that early malaptive schemas' mediator role between perceived parenting styles and generalized anxiety symptoms; it has been evaluated that maladaptive coping styles mediator role between early maladaptive schemas and generalized anxiety symptoms. 539 volunteer participants from various age and occupational groups constitute the research sample. Young Parenting Inventory (YPI), Young Schema Questionnaire (YSQ), Young-Rygh Avoidance Inventory (YRAI), The Young Compensation Inventory (YCI), A Brief Measure for Assessing Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) were applied to collect data in the research. Regression analyisis showed the maternal pessimistic/worried focused parenting; paternal conditional/achievement focused parenting; impaired autonomy, unrelenting standarts and impaired boundaries; psychosomatism and control were found to be associated with generalized anxiety symptoms. Moreover, it is found that impaired autonomy and unrelenting standarts early maladaptive schema domains have mediator role between perceived parenting styles and generalized anxiety symptoms. Also, psychosomatism and control have mediator role between early maladaptive schema domains and generalized anxiety symptoms. The findings were evaluated and discussed based on the literature.
